BabaKul is the Los Angeles-based contemporary women’s collection that personifies its French namesake which translates into “hippie.” Helmed by Kym Gold, the former coowner/co-founder of True Religion Brand Jeans, Babakul Inc., was incepted in late 2008 to serve as an alternative to the standard, 5-pocket jean.
After 25 years in the fashion industry and launching other notable brands including Hippie Jeans and Bella Dahl, Kym Gold decided to team up with longtime friend and former VP of Marketing at Antik Denim and Taverniti So Jeans, Sophie Wizmann, to serve as business partner and COO of Babakul, Inc. Together, the like-minded entrepreneurs have built a lifestyle brand with a concise, straight to-the-punch offering that will be available in Japan, London, Germany, Canada and Mexico in addition to the United States.
Babakul is sold at top retailers nationwide including Theodore, Ron Herman, Fred Segal, National Jeans, Gia Ventola and more. Celebrity fans include Jessica Alba, Scarlett Johansson, Miley Cyrus, Rachel Bilson, Bridget Moynahan and Kourtney Kardashian, to name a few.
About Kym Gold
Raised in Malibu, California, Kym Gold was influenced by the endless golden sunsets and the natural beauty of her surroundings. Throughout the last 25 years, Kym’s unwavering drive and captivating style has helped her achieve multiple successes in the fashion industry.
Prior to launching Babakul, Inc., Kym Gold incepted notable clothing labels including Bella Dahl, Hippie Jeans and True Religion Brand Jeans. Her fashions have been worn by a diverse range of individuals such David Beckham, Tom Ford, Angelina Jolie, Donna Karan, Heidi Klum, Jennifer Lopez, Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow, Gwen Stefani and Justin Timberlake. Her designs have been featured in top fashion magazines, including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, In Style and Rolling Stone.
Kym combined her experience as a principal owner and designer of many prosperous ventures along with her entrepreneurship to embark on a new path that led to the formation of Babakul, Inc. By utilizing every aspect of her knowledge and experience as a trendsetter, the Babakul line embodies Kym’s exquisite eye for detail to introduce a unique label for the contemporary women of today.
About Sophie Wizmann
Moroccan born, raised in Canada and France, Sophie Wizmann has become a self-made business woman utilizing her multi-cultural upbringing and travel. Graduating with honors in Computer Science and Business Administration at the accredited and highly competitive University of Montreal and Rene Descartes in Paris, France, Ms. Wizmann’s first fashion stint was serving as the design coordinator for FAMILY a knit company in France for six years. After traveling throughout Asia and Europe, Ms. Wizmann solidified her manufacturing skills for knit products as she worked for companies including Kookai, Blanc Bleu and Naf Naf, among others.
Ms. Wizmann opened her own business, “Life Stinks”, in Florida. For two years, “Life Stinks” provided promotional items to clubs, restaurants, hotels and cruise ships throughout the United States and Caribbean. Ms. Wizmann opted to take a well deserved break from the industry for two years as she managed The Sereno Beach Hotel in the luxurious paradise of St. Barth. The pull and excitement of the fashion industry, however, drew Ms. Wizmann back in no time when she was recruited by Paul Guez of Blue Holdings, Inc., where she spent 10 years overseeing brand development and marketing campaigns for high end denim collections, Taverniti and Antik Denim.
Sophie Wizmann’s expertise in the fashion industry spans over 15 years as she has received a comprehensive, first hand education on the American fashion market and denim industry. The former VP of Marketing and Brand Manager at Blue Holdings Inc has teamed up with fashion industry leader Kym Gold as business partner and COO of Babakul, Inc.
